Teaching to transgress

"The classroom, with all its limitations, remains a location of possibility. In that field of possibility we have the opportunity to labor for freedom, to demand of ourselves and our comrades, an openness of mind and heart that allows us to face reality even as we collectively imagine ways to move beyond boundaries, to transgress. This is education as the practice of freedom."

Bell Hooks, Teaching to Transgress

Research and Articles

I believe in producing information in formats that are accessible and popularly available for public consumption - not just academic use.

Organizing and Activism

As a scholar-activist I believe all of my work is intimately connected. I have been involved in creating a traveling art and educational exhibit highlighting the work of activists and communities in Colombia. Donna Slade crafted over 20 images and I wrote corresponding narratives detailing the context and history.

The work of the Witness for Peace Solidarity Collective and its activists across the Americas has been and continues to be ongoing inspiration for my research.
